Another of Scotlands most beautiful sea passages is getting its own St Ayles skiff. Kyles Rowing Club in Tighnabruich are busy building a skiff for their community. Here are a couple of pictures from a couple of weeks ago, shortly it will look a whole lot more like a boat as the builders fit the stem and stern.
Tighnabruaich had a slow start as they struggled to get a suitable location to build the boat. They now have a fantastic location in a shopfront in the village although they are not yet sure how to get the boat out! Removing a window frame is probably going to be required….. watch this space for the photos in due course.
The build is really getting going , with two build directors allocating the tasks which seems to be working with productivity increasing. The builders meet on a Tuesday and a Thursday evening and a Sunday afternoon with a good amount of support from some very handy folk. Raising money has been a challenge but the community is now doing all it can to get the funds going: from quiz nights to sponsoring a plank Kyles are now steaming ahead.
