Carrick Maid Takes to the water

Crowds gathered in Maidens on the Ayreshire Coast last Sunday under clear skies to celebrate the launch of a beautiful Ayrshire maid. The conditions could not have been better, the company was great and the skiff was stunning.

Christened by the former Rector of Carrick Academy, using some Old Putney, Carrick Maid became the 31st St. Ayles Skiff launched in Scotland since the start of the project. She was built by pupils and staff of Carrick Academy over the last year, some of the team can be seen below.

Marr Voyager made the trip down from Troon with a couple of crews. Amongst them was David Sutherland who has provided the photos in this article. Marr Voyager was afloat awaiting the arrival of Carrick Maid into Maidens Harbour. Once afloat both boats had a few trips out of the harbour mouth with different crews. Royal West was also in attendance and managed to blag an outing in Marr Voyager.

Congratulation and welcome to the water Carrick Maid.  May you always be blessed with rowing conditions as good as on your launch day.
