A new St Ayles – with a difference!

Saturday saw the launch of Sephira, from Moravian Academy in Pennsylvania.

We have all enjoyed the small differences between the skiffs that we have built, but the modification made by Michael Brolly to Sephira are amazing, and turned the heads of the crowds at the WoodenBoat Show at Mystic.

This boat is a soundbox, and I have heard her being “played” albeit with only two of the intended eight strings. Builder Michael Brolly intends to take her out to see to talk to whales; the two strings he had rigged yesterday afternoon definitely sounded whale-ish.

Notwithstanding that she is still incomplete, especially in the rowlock department, she rows very nicely as well!
