Cumbrae Sail and Oar Festival 18 and 19 August 2012


The weekend following on from Loch Broom regatta, a number of skiffies will be going to the Isle of Cumbrae in the Firth of Clyde to take part in the Cumbrae Sail and Oar Festival.  Racing is planned in a number of categories on the Saturday. There will be plenty for the camp followers to enjoy, with the skiff racing being part of a much bigger festivity.  In addition to the skiff racing there will be ’Come and try’ dinghy sailing and canoes from Newton Beach, Galgael’s ‘Orcuan’ providing trips round the bay, Galgael and others  demonstrating traditional crafts in Garrison House grounds, live music in the marquee,   gala, arts and crafts,face painting in Garrison grounds and  a Saturday night Ceilidh   (free tickets for all festival participants). On  Sunday there will be s social cruise around the Wee Cumbrae for anyone who wants to join in.  

 So far it is confirmed that the Cumbrae skiff will be joined by skiffs from Royal West, Gal Gael and Pittenweem, but other skiffs will be made most welcome.  Any skiffies interested in attending should contact Anne Brown as soon as possible by e mail anne.brown1@hotmail.co.uk so that she can help to organise free skiff travel on the CalMac ferry. A camping area is provided free of charge for participants.
