Argyll now has another rowing club with the formation of Kilmelford Rowing Club at the head of the beautiful Loch Melfort. (A lovely area for a bit of skiff touring by the way). One of the first acts of the new club members was to go for a row in a skiff. As they were returning from the Isle of Seil with Chris O’Kanaird, Alan and Babs from Anstruther popped by to first foot the new club, and conditions allowed them to get out for a few circuits. Ewan Kennedy, currently helping with the build on Seil and a founder member of Kilmelford Rowing Club reported ” the thing that struck me most was finding how little resistance there is as the skiff gathers speed. There was probably less effort involved than in sculling about in a much smaller dinghy. One minute we were at the edge of the moorings, the next right up at the head of the loch.” Full story and more pics on the Seil Skiff website. Kilmelford Rowing Club hope to start building a St Ayles skiff later this month.
