The first Australian Skiff Imagine arrived at the Australian Wooden Boat Festival in Hobart this afternoon rowed by some of the ladies who built her over the last year. They were part of a fleet of 350 wooden boats drawn from all over Australia, and further afield. One crew has sailed from Vladivostok!
Having only launched her on the 8th of December, these ladies have fallen in love with their boat; they have been rowing her for the past eight days as part of the Tawe Nunnugah Raid 2013 which has seen Imagine rowed over 100nm. Many more pictures on the Tawe Nunnugah Raid website, including their use of a small sail to take some of the effort. Who can blame them as they were raiding with sail boats.
Talking to them as they quaffed their beers after their arrival, they are very happy to have built a St Ayles. More builds are planned, and they will be spreading the word at the show.
Home teams be warned – the crews coming to Ullapool in July regard this raid as a side show and have stayed in Franklin in full training for the Skiffy Worlds. The Australians are coming, and they mean business!
