Coastal Success at “Indoor Rowing” Championships

With the weather continuing to be a wee bit challenging for rowing on the sea, three Coastal Rowers put in great performances at the Scottish Indoor Rowing Championships this weekend.  The racing is held on matched Concept II rowing machines, with veteran age group categories racing over 1000m (the open categories are over 2km, and some of the junior categories are for maximum distance in 5 minutes).

Ian Mills of Crail Crabbers came third in the lightweight division of the 40+ category in 3mins 26.3 seconds.  Martin Still, who is a member at Boatie Blest in Port Seton,  managed a remarkable 3:00.3 to come 2nd in the 40+  heavyweight event.
John Irvine of North Berwick Rowing Club became Scottish Indoor Rowing 50+ champion for 2013, with exactly the same time as he clocked last year, 3:08.2.  Anyone who has had a go on one of these machines will know that these times  are stunning.
Congratulations to Martin, Ian and  John.
