A Windy Day out in Queensferry – The Results

On May 26th last Queensferry Rowing Club held their Regatta in blustery conditions. We had Clubs from as far West as Arran and Troon and as far North as Portsoy along with crews from the Firths of Forth and Tay. It was a sunny day but there was an Easterly wind blowing which brought a chill to the air.  This was the first Regatta since the completion of the new Queensferry Crossing and a grand backdrop it was.

The race course was from underneath the Road Bridge down to a finger buoy off the harbour wall, along to the harbour wall and then head for home. The fastest race of the day was the Men’s Open with Broughty Ferry coming home in a remarkable time of 7 minutes 34 seconds and that with having issues with their oars on the turn. North Berwick were second in 7 minutes 40 seconds and third were Arran in 8 minutes and nine seconds.

We had our usual Andy’s Race in memory of Andy Jarvis, a Rower well known to most clubs throughout Scotland who would Row for whoever would have him.  This race was won by Eskmuthe’s boat with Queensferry coming second and Broughty Ferry coming third.

The day was added to with some wonderful catering and a tombola with a cornucopia of prizes .  All photos from the Queensferry Rowing Club Flikr.…  plenty more great shots to be seen there.
