Child Policy

Clubs should each have their own policies for involving young people safely in our sport.  Clubs are self governing in this respect.

It is important to avoid uneven development of growing bodies. Oars for use by children should be light. Where possible children should consider using two oars (“sculling”) rather than one large sweep oar. Consult British Rowing guidance on “How Much, How Often”,  which is now part of their Rower Development Training Guidance and suggests that no one under the age of 15 should be training on the water using just one oar.

All participants in Coastal Rowing are encouraged to avoid uneven development by rowing in equal measure on Starboard and Port sides.
