Membership

The SCRA is open to any club or other organisation who agree with the aims and objectives of the constitution of the SCRA:

  • To promote, and support the building and use of coastal rowing boats in Scotland and stimulate healthy competition between communities and clubs by means of races, regattas or other organised events.
  • To promote coastal rowing as a healthy activity which can be done safely by people of all ages at a level suited to their competence, experience and state offitness and which in addition provides unique opportunities to be close to nature and to wild life.
  • To adopt and apply best practice in Health and Safety, Safety at Sea, and Child Protection and to take personal responsibility for their application.
  • To foster close relationships between the builders of boats and equipment and rowers, so that there is better understanding of skills and craftsmanship, design and materials.
  • To encourage members to meet socially.

There are many benefits to membership of the SCRA.
As well as serving as the Class Association for the St Ayles Skiff (and therefore encouraging compliance with Measurement Rules), here’s just some of what we do.

  • Collate advice and information for building and using skiffs
  • Supply building advice and put new clubs in touch with nearby established clubs
  • Publish coastal rowing news on our website
  • Issue safety advice and spread good practice
  • Administer a Facebook Group with over 2,200 members from around the world
  • Run coxing, umpiring and race organising courses in various locations
  • Organise in partnership with a local body a World Championship event every three years
  • Organise a Freshwater Sprint Regatta and AGM at the end of every season
  • Represent the sport with various government bodies and other sports organisations
  • Publish and maintain a calendar of events
  • Issue Rules of Racing for coastal rowing in Scotland
  • Supply and advise umpires and race organisers for new clubs
  • Hire out race marks for regattas
  • Build a community of communities

New clubs are welcome and encouraged.
Membership of SCRA is through an annual subscription of £60 (or £40 for clubs of less than 20 members), which is due at the end of October.

Payment can be made either by a cheque made out to the SCRA and posted to the address in the link, or by BACS to Scottish Coastal Rowing Association,(details in the link). If you choose this way to pay please label your payment with the name of your club, and email me to tell me you have done it. Click on the link to be reminded of some of the great things that we achieve as a community because of your (fairly modest) subscriptions.
