Congratulations to Cromarty, who were awarded a Blue Flag at the Scottish Coastal Rowing Association’s Virtual AGM to recognise their achievement in raising funds for the neuro ward in Aberdeen. Blue Flags recognise the efforts of clubs to help their wider community.
Cromarty Community Rowing Club established a prize, for the person or persons who epitomise the spirit of the club, named the Goodie Prize after a cherished local man whose family donated to the club. This year’s recipient was overwhelmingly won by ‘Wanda Woman’ – a whirlwind of a woman who did, and does, much to get the club up and running, and who guides and runs the youth rowing.
Wanda wanted to raise money for the Aberdeen neuro ward, where she herself been treated for a brain tumour. A gin raffle at Cromarty Regatta sold £2,850 worth of tickets – SCRA guesses that a few of our rowers must like their gin (!) Hampers were also raffled, which included a two-night stay in Aviemore. A JustGiving page, a night with a medium, a craft stall and a ‘Malt Whisky Door Key’ were also organised. The grand total raised was a whopping £5,533.80.
The hospital is to buy four recliners with the donations, which fit nicely into the single rooms and will be greatly appreciated by those families visiting patients on the ward.
