Lochaber Coastal Rowing Club launches Each Dubh (dark horse)

A beautiful sunny and still April morning heralded the launch of the latest St Ayles skiff – Each Dubh from the Thomas Telford Marina, Corpach.

The launch journey began at the boatshed at Banavie from where Each Dubh was pulled along the Caledonian Canal tow path to the naming ceremony officiated by
John Ireland and Chris Thompson from Lochaber CRC. A final pull down the slipway between the raised oars and club colours of five neighbouring Argyll, Lochaber and Nairn clubs signalled the start of her maiden voyage.

Not wanting to miss out on the chance of a skiff party, skiffs from Seil CRC, Appin Skiff Coastal Rowing, Lorn CRC, Glencoe Boat Club and Nairn CRC had got up
early and set off from the Lochaber Yacht Club in Fort William for an hour’s row in company across Loch Linnhe.

It was a stunning row up Loch Linnhe together with views of Ben Nevis and the surrounding Nevis range. During the day, all six skiffs were kept busy taking rowers out to explore the waters, there was a fly by and extra steam puff from the Jacobite steam train to Mallaig and then a lovely BBQ to finish.

The biggest and heartiest welcome to Lochaber CRC to the Scottish Coastal rowing community and let it begin…
